100,000th BMW GS Rolls Off Assembly Line
BMW's ready-for-anything GS model is officially the most successful Beemer of all time, with 84,373 classic GSs and 15,627 Adventure variants having been produced by the Munich-based manufacturer as of July 27, 2007.
The GS furthered its cult reputation after Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman were snubbed by KTM for their 'round the world documentary, Long Way Round, and chose to make the journey on R1150GSs instead. They've gone with souped up BMW R1200GS Adventures for their latest longitudinal global circumnavigation doc entitled Long Way Down, and their choice will probably help BMW sell even more of their famously rugged rides.

Kudos to BMW. I was thinking, not my style, and then I thought about some roads in New Mexico and Colorado that continue after the asphalt ends. Might be fun to ride those some day.
Come to think of it, it would work pretty well on the streets here in Manhattan as well.
Ewan and Charley have reached Capetown as of Aug. 4! Long Way Down is now complete. It will be great to see the BBC series and see how they performed through the sand, mud and hard going for 15,000 miles.
And, as a Ewan fan, I love seeing him and Charley going through real challenges.
BMW’s always !!

I’m looking forward to watching the two navigate this adventure! I’ve just about worn out my “Long Way Round” dvd!
