Electric Motorcycles Gone Wild: Would-Be Drag Racer Collides with Parked Minivan

Friday September 14, 2007
KillaCycle Drag Motorcycle

We're not sure how a helmetless drag racer manages to demonstrate smoky burnouts on a public sidewalk while riding a 400-horsepower electric motorcycle, but anything can happen in Los Angeles, including the collision of said rider with a parked minivan. The KillaCycle in question (no pun intended) is capable of hitting 60 mph in a staggering .97 seconds, and happens to be the world's quickest electric drag bike, with a quarter mile record of only 8.168 seconds at 155.78 mph. Incidentally, the thing sounds like an angry power drill when it accelerates.

The horrifying fender (and wheel) bender unfolded at Wired Magazine's NextFest event and, like any great conversation starter, was captured on video. Rider and company founder Bill Dube thankfully survived the wacky ride and has blogged that he is "just a bit scraped up. Emabarrassed [sic] of course..."

For the record, his blog entry concludes with a heartfelt admission: "Yes, I am an idiot. :-/"

For a such smart person - he’s a stupid rider. Who would get on a drag bike without gear and do a burnout in a public area. I read the blog and he swears no one was at risk. This video looks like it was shot at an office park. This is just about the dumbess thing I’ve ever seen from someone that should know better.

Idiot indeed.

Also, burnouts are just a waste of resources, no?

He who shines his ass usually busts it.

A drag bike should have his publicity on a drag strip. He should be in full track armor. His behavior was cavalier in nature and unacceptable. For all his intelligence he was juvenile in his execution. There is no excuse for his actions. Thankfully he will live to learn from his mistake.

Wow! That bike took off like a bullet!!! Those batteries are pretty special; too bad they weigh so much…over 100 lbs. Hope the guy is OK!

Man, what was he thinking. Atleast no one got hurt.
