Harley Lures Buyers with Deferred PCP Scheme...

Friday November 23, 2007
Harley Ad

...Deferred Personal Contract Purchase, that is.

Harley-Davidson is offering the incentive on all 2007 and 2008 models through the end of December. When Harley buyers put 15% down or Buell buyers put 20% down, the first payment isn't due for 90 days, making it easier than ever to get into an iconic, V-twin powered American motorcycle.

Whether you see this as a half-empty cup of shareholder-motivated corporate maneuvering, or a half-filled cup of bike buying opportunity, it seems Harley is dead serious about kick starting its sales.

Happy Holidays, and if this offer is enticing, happy bike shopping.

When they start offering 2007 models at cost, with free labor for new pipes, then they’ll be getting my attention. I had a Yamaha dealer offer me a Straoliner S for just over $13k. And with that bike there’s not a lot of need to “invest” in chrome. (sorry, but I’m so sick of H-D sellers thinking that since they spent money on chrome that it’s something I want or want to pay for)

Who is that easier for? Someone who can’t make payments right away? What is the extra couple of months for, time to get a job. If someone needs an extra two months, what they gonna do for the next 3 - 5 years. Do yourself a favor, get a kawasaki. Cheaper and more reliable. And if you do have a problem, the dealers fix it…

Scottie/GAR- I bought a Harley 3 years ago. I added some chrome, dropped the rear, added some pin striping and got to ride it for 3 years. I just sold it and got back what I paid for it new. Try doing that with Yamaha/Kawasaki. I just saw a new 2006 stratoliner that they can’t get rid of. Besides, what would you rather have, chrome covered plastic or nice good old American metal.

Here’s a deal. No money down and no payments for 12 months. 15% down and 3 months no payments is a minimal savings at best.

Wow…
“added some chrome, dropped the rear, added some pin striping ..”
Probably had to pay another fortune for that too…
And… naw… I prefer plastic… lighter (lighter…better HP/weight ratio, get it?), doesn’t rust and cheaper to replace…

Busfreak: I have Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe. It only cost 14K and came with a 5 year unlimited warranty…no extra cost. Harley chrome is not real metal…it is chromed plastic at a $100 a shot. I never needed to put any chrome on my Star cycle and it looks much nicer than a Harley and runs circles around any cruiser I have riden with. Harley sure knows how to sucker you guys in for the kill. By the way, why did you sale the Harley after 3 years…using too much oil???

Yamaha/Kawasaki riders … it’s still NOT A HARLEY!

(8) Scottie says:

There’s a family that runs a couple of dealships down in the Dallas area that actually does things right - or seemed to be last time I was down there. They actually tag their bikes with MSRP and itemize any add ons. Never been to another H-D dealer that did so.

BTW, there are 1,536 H-Ds for sale on ebay right now.

Baghdad John,
I’m not sure you understand…
I DON’T WANT a harley!!!
I’m GLAD they are NOT harley’s!!!
If they were I wouldn’t buy them either!!!
What makes you think everyone likes or want them?Actually, the ONLY Harley I might consider would be the V-Rod and that’s it!!!
Hmmm..But that’s a Porsche, isn’t it?

I have always liked Harleys, the FLH being one of my all time favorites. Since I was 7 years old I have wanted to own one. I’m over fifty now and they are still out of my reach price wise. I refuse to finance a bike for as long as they offer. I also like the Star machines. The local Yamaha shop is offering a roadliner (07 113 ci.) for 11,750 O.T.D. Nice bike. I ride a 1100 v-star classic now. Nice bike but I need something bigger that my wife would be comfortable on. If I didn’t have this bike I would buy the roadliner right now. I probably never will own the FLH

What part of “rode the bike 3 years and sold it for what I paid for it” doesn’t compute with Harley haters?
Not since Muhammed Ali has anything inspired such hate - and both are THE GREATEST!
