Photo Gallery: 2007 Harley-Davidson Sportster Nightster

Thursday December 13, 2007
Harley-Davidson Sportster Nightster Call it a girl's bike if you want, but the Harley-Davidson Sportster has become a sort of institution, a motorcycle icon that amazingly celebrated its 50th anniversary this year.

To commemorate the occasion, Harley built the XL 1200N Sportster 1200 Nightster-- which we'll call Nightster for short. The bike offers lots of unique, street savvy styling cues including fork gaiters, a bullet-hole belt guide and front fender supports, and a folding, side-mounted license plate holder.

Sportster owner and Sport Utility Vehicle guru Jason Fogelson spent some time with the Nightster, and his full review will run shortly. In the meantime, check out our 2007 Harley-Davidson XL 1200N Sportster 1200 Nightster photo gallery, (pardon the clunky nomenclature; it's a Harley thing) and comment on whether or not this reinterpretation of the classic Sportster captures the essence of the original.

Same expensive junk different color…
HD tires and light bulbs, huh? Hmmm..maybe a new way to dig deeper in ones wallet… come on!!!
Plastic oil cap a downside? I wish more were plastic to make it a lighter and more nimble ride…
Apart from the V-Rod, the rest of HD’s line in my opinion is way too over rated and worth nothing…

This is the way it would have looked back in the 1960’s. At least that is the way I would have done it. I think it looks great. My 1999 Dyna Super Glide is sort looking like that.

Hey Guido,
It’s still A HARLEY and yours isn’t.
If ya gotta ask, you wouldn’t understand!

Nice styling job. If Harley put as much effort in upgrading the performance parts as they do paint schemes, they could really have a nice product. I don’t see the wisdom in producing a bike that looks better parked than it does on the road. It still has throw away suspension parts and poor brakes, but I suppose those that buy a nightster are more interested in looking cool (which it does) than performing well. Hopefully they will put as much effort into the next Roadster edition. I may just trade in my 883 if they do.

And this year to all 30 models we at H.D. added $300.00 to the cost of our over rated and over priced motorcycles–bend over and take it like a H.D. rider. Had a H.D. glad I got rid of that junk.

This is definately not the “family” motorcycle. It’s a personal thing. But yes, this bike does everything it’s supposed to.

i have a 2008 nightster with peacemaker pipes and love it to bits.. i’m 5ft 6 so its perfect for me and it feels sooo nice to ride. i was surprised as anything that it is better for a long distance than my triumph. still the suspension should be a damn sight better for a bike at this price than it is. i’ll be getting better rear shocks and have the front end sorted as its terrible on broken surfaces.
