The Long Hello: Yamaha Courts V-Max Fanatics With Novel Teaser
When it was introduced in 1985, Yamaha's V-Max unintentionally invented a motorcycle genre that would eventually explode into thriving niche market: the power cruiser. Fast forward to 2007, and every manufacturer seems to have a take on the hot rod cruiser paradigm.
Yamaha? Well, they've got an all-new V-Max on the way, but instead of releasing nebulous photos or a mind-boggling spec sheet, they've unveiled an odd metal sculpture that was first seen at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. The piece made its way to the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show, and to be quite honest, I didn't know what to make of it. The thing looks like something snatched from the lab of a mad motorcycle scientist inventor. Stray tubes and wires on the edges of this static art piece suggests that some high-tech industriousness is going on, but one thing is for sure: in this increasingly competitive marketplace where the most powerful motorcycles routinely pump out nearly 200 horsepower, the 2009 Yamaha V-Max had better be one blazing bike in order to maintain its legendary status and thrive in this speed happy bike culture of ours.

Long live the V-Max. I grew up on one and had a thrill a minute every time I got on it. I’m older now, and slowed down with a HD Ultra, but I’ll always love the V-max.
Owned a Max for over 6 years and loved every minute of them!!!
Went then to a 06 FZ1 and a Warrior…
