Cops Gone Green!
While the FDNY recently declined an offer to equip their emergency medical services personnel with Harley-Davidsons, Newsday has reported that the 36,000 officer-strong NYPD will test four electric Vectrix scooters early next month.
The Vectrix vehicles are capable of a maximum speed of 60 mph, and traveling for 40 to 60 miles before requiring a recharge. According to the story, the NYPD already uses 392 Piaggio scooters, as well as 104 Yamaha scooters.
Detective Derek Siconola is quoted as saying, "You could easily sneak up on somebody if they don't expect it," and by the looks of the officer seen here posing on a Vectrix, New York's finest might have lots of fun testing these silent scoots.

Yes, he’s having much fun. He patrols the village. He stops by my cafe for a latte and donuts, then gives me a quick frisking in the back room…
I love it when bicycle cops nab a thug because he didin’t realize the cops are there. So bring on the electric scooters. Anything to keep NYC the safest big city in the country.
Juicey (??)
You off ur meds??
40-60 miles before recharging? No wonder he spends all his time sucking down lattes! He is recharging his batteries in more ways than one.
Honestly, what good is that kind of range. I ride farther than that just around my neighborhood!
I agree with GB above. A scooter is OK but not an electric with a 40 mile range. A Burgman or Majesty 400 would
be great. Approx 60 mpg, plus around a 250 mile range. Battery powered scoots just don’t have the range.
Sneak up on them and, what?, hit them with your purse? Straddle a Harley like real cops!
