Speed on Two Wheels
I'm up in Monterey, California to ride the all-new 2008 Honda CBR1000RR, and just finished watching a DVD of Speed on Two Wheels in my hotel room-- a fitting warmup to what promises to be a day of spirited riding at Laguna Seca.
The 58 minute video is the brainchild of Dylan Weiss-- who produced Ducati - A Story of Passion and runs TwistingAsphalt.com-- and covers the basic principles behind exactly what the title suggests. Nick Ienatsch, Reg Pridmore, and Mat Mladin offer insight into the world of high performance riding, and a camera crew follows a stock Kawasaki ZX-6R as it becomes a Supersport weapon at the hands of Tommy and Roger Hayden.
While not intended to be an in-depth track riding tutorial, Speed on Two Wheels (which aired in a slightly shorter form on The Discovery Science Channel) takes a broad look at the world of motorcycle racing and dips its toes into the historical genesis of modern sportbikes. It offers lots of information suited to those with a casual curiosity about racing, yet also managed to get me psyched for a day at the track.
