In May of last year I asked if the future of motorcycling could be hydrogen powered, and to get an update on the ENV-- the ambitious hydrogen and electric-powered motorcycle-- and I recently checked in with the bike's maker, Intelligent Energy.
I was told that the ENV is getting certified for use in Britain, and that its already certified parts should ease the process.
Intelligent Energy hopes the ENV will hit British roads in 2009, and the rep mentioned that "The project is still going to plan, but without the public skepticism that hydrogen seems to be facing in the states, and California in particular." The fact that London mayor Ken Livingstone intends to earmark money for a fleet of hydrogen powered-buses if he's re-elected adds an intriguing twist to what will hopefully be a fruitful exploration of alternative fuel technology.

At the risk of beieng “Un-green” ….
Naaahhh…I don’t think I see one those in my drive way anytime soon.
I’m hopelessly mired in the 1000cc fossil fuel pit.
Greetings! You folks must have been reading my mind (or what’s left of it).
The future is Here! We stand at the Crossroads of what was, is and is yet to come! What a time to be a motorcycle enthusiast! What a time to be alive! Remember, they scoffed at the Wright Bros., Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, John Harley, William Davidson…
Let’s do all we can to cheer these brave entrepreneurs on. Like Captain James T. Kirk put it “Let’s Boldly Go Where No One Has Gone Before.”
Ride Safe! GODSPEED!
Looks like a lot of bicycle and mountain bike gear on this, which isn’t a bad thing.
Looks like a sissy bike. Which ain’t bad, IF YOU’RE A SISSY…!
Kinda reminds me of that “Spy vs. Spy” comic strip from Mad Magazine. I like it and I will definitely get one (black!) if it comes Stateside.
sissy bike…
this “sissy bike” is the new way of riding… if you want to go destory a planet with your 5mpg “cool” bike then GTFO this planet and go die in a crater on the moon
As a mechanical desigenr, I see this as a great step in the right directions. with gass hitting close to 4.50 gal and my cheapest auto get 14mph, thats $90 a week in gass. I would buy one of these in a hart beat.
To anyone that thinks this is a sissy bike, take a look at the orgins of a motorcycal, you will see the same thing. It has to start somewhere. I would ride one of these.
What can be done to lobby for these to be on the roads asap, aswell as fuel cell buses and cars. Is it the old problem of the power of oil standing in the way? If it is it’s time we all stood up to the oil companies.
I’m can’t wait for these to hit the road. Depending on price, I think it’s the future of commuting.
I love to have now
Any progress on establishing a release date yet? Will they be available in the U.S.?
National Geogrpahic has this in Aug 05, said ready for US market by 06. Whats taking so long?? They could have sold the he11 out of them when gas was so high in the US last year. Lost opportunity….
Anyone have a link or word on where the production of this bike is at? It seems many folks would ride it on private roads. I for one want to get my hands on a couple of these. I wonder whether one might put a couple of energy cells on something a little bigger. Specifications at the very least would be helpful.
Regards,
TC
