Ten Great Advanced Beginner Bikes
If you're ready to graduate from your first motorcycle and most beginner bikes are too basic for your skill level, you might be ready to upgrade to an advanced beginner bike (like the Kawasaki Versys, pictured here.)
My list of 10 Great Advanced Beginner Motorcycles features bikes with larger motors and, in a few cases, taller seats. These bikes are good fits for riders with a few miles under their belts, but who aren't necessarily ready for a track-ready sportbike, a supersized cruiser, or a 1,000cc tourer. So if you're a little bit bigger, taller, or more experienced but crave a user-friendly motorcycle that will keep you out of too much trouble, check out my list of 10 Great Advanced Beginner Motorcycles.

All the manufactures make decent streetable
bikes in the 650 to 750cc range. You seem to
have blinders on, as most of your picks are
crotch rockets or tall multi-purpose bikes.
I see a lot of females on H-D 83s. I started
on a Honda 500 & Yamaha 650. My son presently
has a Yamaha 750. OPEN your mind. Most of the
riders will be on the street, & have shorter legs. Wing=rider
Hi George.
My list is as eclectic as the market allows, and unfortunately there aren’t many 650-750cc bikes I would consider mild enough for an advanced beginner.
I’m assuming you’re referring to the Harley-Davidson 883? That was included in my Ten Great Beginner Bikes. Honda no longer makes a 500, and I covered a Yamaha V-Star 650 Custom in the beginner bike list.
The reason most of the bikes in this compilation are sporty or dual purpose is because it’s a list of advanced beginner bikes… but I do appreciate and share your enthusiasm.
Cheers,
Basem
