Photo Gallery: BMW's New S1000RR Superbike
Wednesday October 8, 2008
Sporting shark-like engine vents and chiseled bodywork clad in red, white, and blue livery, BMW's new S1000RR race bike was unveiled today at the Intermot motorcycle show in Cologne, Germany.
Details are still trickling in, but here's some key info:
- The S1000RR's 1,000cc inline-4 will produce 190 horsepower
- Weight will be less than 419 lbs
- It will be equipped with traction control and ABS
- The bike will be campaigned by Ruben Xaus and Troy Corser in World Superbike
- The street version of the S1000RR will go on sale in late 2009.
While the all-new bike marks new territory for BMW and the specs look compelling on paper, we're hoping to get a better idea of how it compares on the road to standard-setting bikes like the GSX-R1000, CBR1000RR, R1, and ZX-10R. Until then, take a look at our BMW S1000RR Photo Gallery to see all the angles on this brand new superbike.

Very cool! I’d like to see the street bike. I wonder how much “less than 419lbs”?
The 190 hp sounds stunning if it’s real…let’s hope they’re not using all the HP to make up for 30lbs too much weight.
WSBK wil be spectacular next year!
