It's a good time for the electric motorcycle industry, even if gas prices have dipped-- this week, at least. Case in point: Electric Motorsport's new GPR-S, a 19 horsepower bike capable of 60-70 mph (depending on gearing) that's a full $7,000 cheaper than its prototype predecessor.
The GPR-S has a 60 mile range in "Economy" mode, and can go 30 miles in "Power" mode. According to tech blog Engadget, 25 GPR-Ss have already found buyers, and the future is also looking good for electric motorcycle manufacturers like Zero-X, who are sold out of their 2008 allotment of bikes. I'm not sure (yet) what it's like to ride a totally silent motorcycle, but hope to sample one of these futuristic two-wheelers soon... do you?

Top scientists in Peru have discovered a link between brain cancer in lab mice and cell phone usage. Who knows what sitting on top of a giant battery will do to our brains…
Top scientists in PERU???….Wow I’ll jump to believe that!!!!
“The Bat” is an endless font of knowledge… ain’t ya, Bat?
Sitting on a giant battery may definitely affect Bat’s brain….it appears from his comment that he may in fact sit on his brain!
I dont know if I am ok with 30-60 miles per charge…. why not just get a scooter… cheaper to buy and more miles per ride without having to fill up/charge up. And Geeze.. you would probably get more thrill out of the putter of a little scooter than zooming along quiter than george jetson. To me this is not a motorcycle, its a future concept not ready to be released to the real motorcycle crowd. Long live my 40mpg 138hp rice rocket!!
until you can get a 100-150 mile bike i will stick with my 55 mpg, 275 mile range sport bike. The EV does not have a by the road support system to plug it in if you are almost out of juice, and you would have to wait hours for a charge vs a few minutes for a gas bike. where is it made, how do you get it serviced?
You would get a better range installing one of these BionX electric bike kits on your favorite ride.
It will not do more than 20 mph (30 mph with the 500 watt motor) but at least you will not get stock when you run low on batteries.
It’s my beemer dingy…..
I have been riding it whenever my BMW 1150GS is an overkill for a quick run to the grocery shop.
No noticable affeft on my brian after 2 years of ridinggg
George.
Greetings. Ride On!!!
Really people? Complaining about the range of these bikes is like criticizing your coffee maker for not being able to make 400 cups in a day. When was the last time you rode your motorcycle, or your CAR for that matter, more than 50 miles? I agree, it’s a limitation that hopefully improves, but these are city-bikes, not ocean-going vessels.
i don’t know why people care about it not making noise… who cares. noise isn’t safer… it’s a jerkoff statis symble… the noise and smell is what kept me from motorcycles… lets just be honest with ourself here… this bike is made to get around, and probely would work best in a city… it’s not for people who wanna drive the long open roads at 250 mph… but if you have a bike like that in the city, well… your sort of an idiot… there are no open roads, and you’ll never go over 40… “motorcycle people” today are often (but not always) just into the statice symbol that it reps. … especialy most harley drivers… not all… but i live in chicago… and every time a see a middleaged man in a suit comming home from work on his “hog” i get just a little sick… you think that guys ever worked on his bike, ever got his hands dirty fixing it???… ok… i’m rambling… this is all i’m saying…. electric motorcycle are the future, and should be… it’s been a long time to still be useing small controled explosions to turn a wheel… people who complain about electric motorcycles are the same people who will look at hoover bikes in the future and say “it’s just not the same with out the wheels”…
@ozinga… you have to be a chic and someone who’s never rode a bike. And FYI having the larger engine displacement isn’t just about status its about power on demand and when you may need it! Many at times being able to accerate and do it fast kept me from being hit by some coffee slurping radio tuning judgemental idiot with too may opinions and not enough personal knowledge from hitting me! And who cares if some guy is a RUB (rich urban biker) he enjoys riding which is what it is all about! Oh and further more it wouldn’t be the same without the wheels but like I said you obviously have never really rode a bike for any length of time that empowers that cock-a-meme rant! And incase your wondering I and interested in both each has its appeals and purposes and uses! Already have my “Hog” and building my Electric bike.
@ozinga… I almost forgot loud pipes do save lives that’s why its a mantra amoung bikers!!!! Keeps idiots aware of use on the road while they are making snap judgements about us!
i agree with the real bikers im a big dork but i have a passion for riding i dont care wat it is if its loud or silent i have owned a suzuki gsxr 600 for 4yrs $12 to fill it up and 200miles out of a 3.89gal tank if i really pud around normal ridin about 175 tho lol give me a electric bike like the tesla car only alot cheaper and i would get one 50 miles is not enough to even get to my work and back maybe they should put mini generators on them or turbine fan acc power?if they can get 400 miles outta a chevy volt they can get at leaast 200-400miles outta bike tech is here us americans just need to pull our head out of our ass and as larry the cable guy would say git ur done ive been thinkin about goin to school for ev tech it is the future but im gonna keep my ricer for when i need that rumble underneath my nuts!
