Honda Gold Wing Road Trip After tending to the Gold Wing's tire and maintenance issues, Jason Fogelson finally found time to hit the open road with his wife Robin, heading up the California coast on About.com's long term tourer.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past 33 years, you're probably aware of the Gold Wing's reputation as being the gold standard for touring bikes. But was Jason's 449 mile journey on the 'Wing all it was cracked up to be? Check out his Honda Gold Wing Long Term Update #7 to find out.

Jason, i think you will have no problem getting over the “whole old guy bike thing”, seeing how you got over riding a “girls bike”… I too want a wing, although i’m just having trouble getting over the “money thing”…

Thanks, Col. (if that is your real rank):

I’ve never worried too much about the money thing when it comes to a GoldWing — they seem to decrease in value very rapidly, so I’ll buy used. And just one ride on my “girl” bike, and I knew I’d found a way to stay in touch with my inner woman — just like the ‘Wing put me in touch with my comfort-oriented old guy.

I have an ‘04 ABS Wing after 30 years of sport bikes. It is my daily rider till the snow flies.
There is nothing that comes close to it for two up, trailer pulling touring. Utterly reliable and amazingly smooth. It is not an old mans bike anymore than an HD or BMW. I plan on trading it for the re-vamped 2010 and will likely keep it well into my retirement.

Always glad to hear of someone seeing the light(buying a GOLD-WING). Am I the only one that still is riding a 1982 Wing(vintage). No need to have a new one every year. I have no hesitation about another trip cross-country on this machine. It has all ready made three.
