Is Honda Building a 'Fury' Chopper?

Wednesday December 3, 2008
Rumored Honda Fury Chopper motorcycle One of the more heavily discussed topics in our forums pertains to an unclear, silhouetted shot of an alleged future Honda product that's been making the internet rounds of late. But unlike traditional Hondas like the Gold Wing, the bike in question-- purportedly called the Fury-- is a bona fide raked-out, deep-seated chopper.

One user identifying himself as an employee at a Honda dealership has posted several details, among them a 1,300cc fuel-injected engine, minimal tags (only one of which indicates the bike is a Honda), a stock 200mm rear tire, and a color-matched frame. "You will be surprised at the rake," he adds, "the bike looks sweet for a Honda, finally you will see Honda step out of the comfort zone they tend to stay in always."

Is Honda really trying to break into the chopper market, and would Soichiro Honda roll in his grave if that happened? And the biggest question of all-- would you be interested in a factory Honda chopper? Lemme know!

This is for real. 13K price. Looks pretty good!

(2) Fred Weldon says:

Sounds like B/S to me. If for no other reason than that Honda’s marketing people are way too smart to jump on the bandwagon of a fad in it’s death-throes.

(3) Scottie says:

I would agree that Honda is too smart to jump into choppers this late in the curve.

However, the real issue is whether Honda would develop an air cooled v-twin for a low volume bike. Absolutely no one is going to buy a liquid cooled chopper.

(4) VendorMode says:

Unfortunately, it is true. Honda is building a chopper. I am a Honda fan and I just don’t get it. This bike is several years too late. The photo that you see above was captured when Honda did an online presentation to it’s dealers. I am still in disbelief. Hopefully, Honda will read these types of comments and drop it.

(5) honda guy says:

well I can assure you that Honda is building a chopper…I sell Honda’s and we saw the new pic of the bike yesterday. It has the VTX 1300cc water cooled engine and the radiator is located up front. But this 1300 is fuel injected. going to sell around 11/12k

(6) Scottie says:

Honda Guy,

The only Japanese manufacturer that has figured out the cruiser market is Yamaha. Air-cooled (mostly), single pin v-twins with belt drive. No one will buy a chopper with a radiator. Oh, yeah, I forgot about the shaft drive. That would be DOA.

Very well kept secret…which is exactly where it should be.
If you happen to like monstrosities like these, don’t hold your breath.
Honda is far too conservative and far too smart.

I used to work for American IronHorse. The thing that killed the semi-custom chopper market, more than anything else, was people had to pay $25K - $50K for what was essentially a bar hopper. That’s a lot of money for a toy. It will be interesting to see if there is still interest in that segment when prices are in the low teens. Presumably the other great albatross of the AIHs and Big Dogs of the world, abysmal quality, shouldn’t be an issue with a Honda.

I can believe it, remember the Honda Rune that was a wild looking ride.

(10) Peter says:

I’m sorry, but a chopper with a radiator is just so wrong! They should stick with their niche and let the others build the traditional noisy, smelly air-cooled bikes we love. I think the Raider is a cool factory chopper, and Victory bikes look good. No need for Honda to lose their shirts on this.

No way. Not in my garage. I am keeping my Harley.

thanks but no thanks

(12) Jerry A. says:

I traded my Honda for a Harley because of Choppernoise and looks, YES I would go back to a Honda that looks like the Fury, and yes I’m one of those 60 year Viet Nam Marine Vets that’s trying to live the child hood I didn’t get.

(13) GSXR Eater says:

So i have seen the Honda Fury and guess what, Its badass its a 1300cc fuel injected bike and yes it is water cooled but you cant see the radiator, which is sick and another cool thing as that its a Honda and its gonna be 12 Grand, its the new VTX1300 C which is not going to be made after 09 it will drop in March so get ready..

(14) Jerry A. says:

I really liked my VLX, and was sorry they discontenude that style. GSWR Eater, from what you just said, the VTW will be a totally great replacement. Can’t wait. Oh, I luv my Harley, always wanted one, but Honda is more ecconomical and I still wear my Honda wings on my Harley jacket. I also had a BSA, kick start only in 1971. Come on HOnda—

YES YES YES 35MM RAKE
FOUR COLORS FUEL INJECTION UNDER 14K

(16) Scott says:

Given the quality of the Honda product I think this is long overdue. If that price is right I think they can compete with the Star line quite easily since Yamaha seems to keep jacking their prices up. Heck, I might even switch over from my V-star.

December 24, 2008 at 10:28 am
(17) Scott says:

Sorry guys but if Honda is going to put out a chopper style bike, I am in! Please don’t forget its all about the riding, so if they build a well priced good looking bike with the reliability of Honda, that’s awesome!
Hey they also said Honda should not build cars a long time ago…..you know how that turned out!

(19) davis says:

Great, another psuedo harley clone jap bike but with an imitation jesse james frame. Geez…get original and build something worth a damn. How about building the CB1100f that was rumored a few years back, what an inline four, Honda get back to your roots. Honda used to be an innovator, Now they are just immitators……

(20) Rick says:

I ride my honda everyday to work, rain or shine. I love to buy american when i can but until the american motorcycle market learns to build more reliable and less expensive machines, i have to go with honda. I would buy fury and ride it, knowing it will not have any issues.

(21) Reggie Hammond says:

It will be great for Honda to build a chopper. However they need to get it right first. First you need at lease 1800cc and you can not build a chopper WITH OUT a 240 rear tire…Please someone from Honda take charge !!

(22) Rai says:

I’ve had a total of 10 bikes 9 of them Hondas during a 18 year period!!! Guess what ?! I’ve NEVER had a problem with any of my bikes !! Many of my friends have HD (I love them, but I LOVE to ride even MORE !!!) 2 of these friends bought Hondas (they kept their harley’s) to go to events because their HD could not make it , I don’t have space for 2 bikes !!! So I think that the FURY is just perfect !!! Of course I’ll change the exaust before I ever get on mine !!!

(23) Kezz says:

No!Do not like it one bit.I think Honda has really hit rock bottom. The bike Honda should have gone with,is the 2005 VTX Power Cruiser concept bike. That is one nasty looking machine.I wanted one from the moment I saw it.Waited for it to be released,it never was,so I bought a Suzuki M109R.I would still buy the VTX Power Cruiser if Honda ever release it.KEZZ.

(24) Karl says:

Honda needs to produce a new V65 MAGNA! None of this sissy chopper jazz. The V65 still sells great used from the 80’s!
