It took a marathon viewing session, but after umpteen hours of watching Long Way Down on DVD, I finished off the series with a deep craving for long distance, two-wheeled touring. Unlike Long Way Round, Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman's latitudinal circumnavigation of the globe, this shorter 15,000 mile ride from Scotland to South Africa was a bit more personal, and the duo seemed somehow more emotionally invested in the journey.
The recently released 3-disc, 10 episode DVD offers a few hokey extras, but the episodes which originally aired on the Fox Reality Channel are the stuff dream tours are made of: stunning vistas, challenging roads, unexpected experiences and the desire for the journey to never end.
