2008 Ducati Hypermotard 1100S Review Between its duck bill nose, mirrors that fold in and out, and top shelf components like Öhlins suspension and Brembo monoblocs, the air-cooled, L-twin-powered Ducati Hypermotard 1100S is a unique beast in the two-wheeled world.

I've got a Ducati Hypermotard 1100S Photo Gallery here, and a review coming soon.

Gotta fold the mirrors in everytime you lane split? Phooey…!

And another thing! Can’t someone come up with a way to hide the the brake fluid reservoirs. Makes me want to scream…!

Not especially attractive - but - I bet it’s a scream to ride.
Classic case study in ‘too much HP is almost enough’ ….

Earl,

Can’t say I disagree about the fluid reservoirs– I prefer them when they’re opaque (as opposed to “urine samples.”)

Pete,

Yeah, it is a scream. The horsepower figure alone isn’t astronomical, but the bike is fairly light so it feels a lot higher. Kind of like the Triumph Daytona 675…

I rode the 1100 & 1100S back to back during their HyperMotard demo day last year.

I had a lot of fun and if I were financially well-endowed, would love to have one as the ultimate technical backroad or urban moto-xpression motorcycle.

The HM is proof positive that one does not need 100+ bhp to have a whole lot of fun.

Alas, the bike is not very versatile with the limited fuel range and no wind protection.

As far as the mirrors go, one can replace them with conventional stalk mirrors from the Ducati Performance catalog to make lane splitting less… dramatic. Otherwise, the stylish folding bar end mirrors are quite functional.

As for the reservoirs, I wish more manufacturers take a hit from MV Agusta.

The nicely integrated reservoirs on the Brutale show us how it can be done.
