In an unprecedented move that has put the motorcycle industry on alert, the Department of Transportation has passed a bill that intends to outlaw "chrome finishes that cover any engine, frame, or headlight assembly on new motorcycles."*
"Chrome is the silent killer," asserts DOT spokesman Melvin P. Meyers, "and if we can rid motorcycles-- especially cruisers-- of the shiny chrome that distracts motorists and causes accidents, our roads will be a safer place."
Last year, Meyers earned the respect and bafflement of sportbike enthusiasts when he tried to pass an amendment that would have legalized wheelies, and the move to eliminate chrome has led one motorcycle advocacy group to proclaim that, "[Meyers] is not only trying to undermine the cruiser business, he's also a closet crotch rocket junky who harbors a deep desire to see only sportbikes on public roads."

Agencies of states and the federal government don’t pass bills. Legislative bodies pass bills. The Department of Transportation perhaps made a recommendation, but didn’t “pass” anything. Please correct this.

After 25 years working for the government….my first thought when I saw this was “of course they have.” It would not be atypical of the government to act unilaterally with little or no input from the industry. The fact that this is a April Fools joke really doesn’t alter the fact that we need to monitor our government constantly….after all, they are monitoring you.

This guy trying to pass a law to prohibit shiny chrome, is a complete babling liberal phsycopath, that needs to be drug kicking and screaming to a real bike rally, instead of those adolesent boy club rallies, I question the logic, Wheelies (non distracting),Chrome ( distracting), if he had a real job and could afford the chrome he would have it, but collecting bottles to buy gas, does not allow for luxury Items, such as Chrome, And Deodorant, Cause he reeks of comminist stinch.
