When BRP's unconventionally styled Can-Am Spyder hit the scene a couple years ago, enthusiasts thought it would make for a great touring machine. But in reality, so-so storage capacity limited its long distance abilities, leaving the task better suited for BMW RTs, Honda Gold Wings, and all manner of big bore bikes with saddlebags and top cases.
A semi-automatic SE5 model attracted more buyers for 2009, but luxury touring still eluded the Spyder... until now: behold the touring variants of Can-Am's Spyder, the RT, RT Audio & Convenience, and the RT-S. Standard equipment includes heated grips, an electric windshield, and a passenger backrest, while options run the gamut from rear speakers and remote adjustable suspension to a dedicated trailer. See the pics in my 2010 BRP Can-Am Spyder RT & RT-S photo gallery, and stay tuned for a review when I ride the three-wheeler next week.

While this is not something I would want right now, I am glad we’re seeing some interesting 3-wheelers like the Can-Am. There’s no denying (as my 49th birthday looms large next week) that someday I won’t be able to handle an 800 lb. two wheeler, but I won’t want to be relegated to a cage.
I have ridden one of these Spyders and if your in a straight line it’s bike like, but in turns its like driving a car. I missed the lean and reverse steering, etc. If only trikes had articulated steering like the Piaggios.
Pete, I agree about the steering. A couple years ago Yamaha had an idea for a 4-wheel bike with a narrow stance and all four wheels articulating independently and would presumably react to counter steer. Haven’t seen an update on that since.
I just celebrated(?)my 62nd B-day a couple of months ago. This most recent iterarion of the Spyder does indeed pique my “I want that” syndrome!
