Do You Belong to a Motorcycle Club?

By January 19, 2010

Follow me on:

Motorcycle club
Groups like the Mongols and the Hells Angels get lots of attention for dramatic news items good enough for dramatic TV fiction, but there are thousands of motorcycle clubs around the world with far less controversial backgrounds.

Do you belong to a motorcycle club? We want to hear about it! Whether you're a part of an offroad, touring, social group, or even the Hells Angels, share your experience using this form, where you can also upload pictures of your group.

(2) Basem Wasef - Motorcycles Guide says:

I had to look up that (apparently Canadian) term. Um, yeah… guilty as charged, I suppose :-) But wouldn’t you admit to being a little bit curious about your fellow readers following the comments on the HA post?

(3) Pete says:

Who, me??
Well, seeing as you asked, I am interested to see what happens on the other side of the tracks.

I belong to a riders club at work…helped start it actually. About 40 ‘members’…pretty low key and informal.
Primarily, although not exclusively, brand H. Anyone on any kind of bike is welcome. We’ve had anywhere from 5 to 25 show up for a 500 ~ 600 km ride…usually every second weekend all spring, summer & fall. Trying to get the other manufacturers all based around here to join us…not much luck so far – and no idea why!
We’re very big on encouraging new riders and non riders to join us see what were all crazy about.

(4) Macaw says:

First of all Hasem, if anybody is a FPM of a MC they wouldn’t be posting anything online about their club or fellow clubs, its called business that isn’t shared with the general public. I’ve read your comments on the previous 81 – 13 episode, and only saw wanna be’s and Ol Ladies yacking about stuff they saw on SAMCRO.

Secondly it is considered a major disrespect to display the cut of an 81 in a photo. Do you have their permission to print such a likeness? I have to agree with the previous poster about you being a sh*t stirrer.

Respects to those FPM’s that come across this posting, and consider yourself (Hasem) pwn’d.

(6) Sloan says:

We have a group with about 15 really active people and 50+ that drop in every now and then. There’s no dues or any official structure but just a group of people that ride together and also try to meet somewhere for dinner on Sunday evening. Sport bikes are in the majority but there’s some cruisers, standards, sport-touring, and maybe even a ‘Wing in there. Our 2 main things are, we NEVER leave anybody behind and we’re AGATT. You can’t ride with us if you don’t have helmet, jacket, gloves, boots that cover the ankles, and full length pants (jeans are fine).

(7) Basem Wasef - Motorcycles Guide says:

Perhaps you’ve misunderstood the purpose of this post. Just like our Reader Rides feature, I’m encouraging the voluntary sharing of stories and, optionally, photos. You might be surprised to learn that many riders belong to clubs whose sole purpose is to celebrate motorcycling.

As for your second point, every time you see an image published on an About.com site, there’s an accompanying copyright notice. Regarding the earlier post about the BBC & HA, the image was licensed from Getty Images.

And yes, Pete is correct: my name is Basem.

Ride safe, and thanks for your interest.

(8) Macaw says:

Hasem – Basem what-ever!

When you post an image of an MC without their permission you disrespect them.

When you post their name you disrespect them.

Their image is theirs’ and in the United States that means a trade mark that has been registered and patented by law. I can imagine you would feel the same way if your picture was used “without” your permission, or art work that you have gone through the trouble of registering and patented.

But continue to do as you wish, I’m sure by now that your picture and name have found its way to the 81′s. Good luck with that!

As for Pete, keep eating your Weaties, one of these days you will find a decoder ring in the bottom of your box.

Respects to any FPM’s that come across this posting,

(9) Pete says:

What an extraordinary response from Mr. Budgie. Sorry…Mr. Macaw!

You…whatsurname that runs this chicken outfit …that’ll be quite enuf disrespecting eh!
Maybe you should adopt a one syllable name too…it might be easier for the linguistically challenged among us.
And what ever you do, despite the unbearable desire, I suggest you refrain from the obvious avian / cerebral gags & references.

January 20, 2010 at 11:18 am
(10) Scottie says:

I don’t know what the heck Macaw is talking about, and don’t really care.

I’m not in a club. Usually solo or with my wife on the back. I’ve been on a forum for my model of bike (Stratoliner) and have found some people I’ll probably try to hook up with this summmer, but I don’t see joining a club.

I’ve been a serious cyclist for years and never joined a cycling club either. Perhaps I’m just anti-social.

(12) Macaw says:

Well thing is the mighty Macaw is a very interesting bird to examine. Lets see who in the world has been around for 6 million years (3 times longer than the earliest man- human) and who learned to adapt and survive when flying among 10 ft wing span meat eating dinosaurs (screaming teradactiles.) OH, that’s right, only the mighty Macaw!

When you look at old world species birds, only those who can talk, are the ones who have survived! More than I can say about 1000′s of RC’s.

So say as you wish Pete but to compare a budgie with a Macaw is like comparing a RC with an MC.

Open mouth and insert foot, or in your case, tiny claw. Hey, did you find that decoder ring this morning? I’d hate to use all of these MC words on such a tiny RC brain.

Respects to all FPM’s that come across this posting.

(13) Freud IOMC says:

Literally born on the Fourth of July in 2004, the Iron Order Motorcycle Club (IOMC) is committed to Brotherhood, friendship and community service along with a healthy dose of patriotism and national pride.

January 20, 2010 at 11:57 am
(14) Pete says:

Well…that certainly cleared things up.
Speaking of Dinosaurs…I sure hope I never run in to one of those screaming teradactiles. They’re probably almost as scary as a Pterodactyl.

TC – Thank you!

(15) aRNIE bINNING says:

I belong to the AMA, MRF, ABATE of Illinois and the ISMA which is a riding club. The first 3 are political action groups fighting for our motorcycle rights and the last is a group of riding friends that do charity work and have fun.

January 20, 2010 at 4:29 pm
(16) Macaw says:

The Iron Order is a COP CLUB. No matter how much perfume you put on it, it’s still a PIG. They spend the whole week trying to bust us and then for the weekend, they love our lifestyle so much they try to imitate us! Go Figure?

(17) Pete says:

I refer you to my acquaintance Geoff and his buds in the UK (that’s England) who as well are mercilessly persecuted by the local constabulary.

(22) Joe says:

Pete, hope some of the neg. comments on here doesn’t affect the way you think about MC’s. Most MC’s have some great people in them .

January 21, 2010 at 4:28 pm
(23) Torch says:

First of all let me qualify myself. I am a FPM in a MC and damn proud of it! What Macaw is saying and some of you just are not grasping is the fact that when you talk about a club or publish things about a club without their permision you show them disrespect, just as if I walked up and slapped you in the face.

Like it or not, accept it or not that is just the way it is when you start putting yourself in our world. Most of you will never have any interaction with a club and that is probably a good thing, but those that do need to remember that when you give disrespect than you wil get it back and then more. We have chosen a club lifestyle and it is a lifestyle, because it gives us something you will never understand, BROTHERHOOD. Remember if you give respect than you will get it back. Keep that in mind when and if you encounter a club, it just might keep you from an aggressive education.

My repsects to all Patch Holders.

(24) Pete says:

Joe…thank you!
Not to worry…I’ve been riding full time for 40+ years and in the industry for 30+ years.
Any dislike I have of clubs goes back a long ways and it is directed at select “gangs”, primarily because I truly detest the image they give the non motorcycling public. Too many people think we’re all the same because of those Neanderthals.
Lot’s of people…many of them on this forum, work hard to dispel those misconceptions.
Cheers to all the straight up, decent, law abiding riders & clubs!

(25) Basem Wasef - Motorcycles Guide says:

I’m not sure why this post has degenerated into combative and threatening messages– some of which I have had to delete because of their offensive nature. But the hypersensitive “you’ve offended me” tone seems unwarranted, especially given that, as I’ve mentioned earlier, all images of motorcycle clubs have been taken with permission and legally cleared.

By highlighting the firing of a Hells Angels member in a recent post, a seemingly peaceful and logical man who has publicly spoken about his membership on TV and on the radio, I thought I was portraying motorcycle clubs in a positive light. The fact that you don’t seem to want any depiction– neither positive nor negative– is unrealistic; discussing motorcycle clubs in a free country certainly shouldn’t come as a shock, particularly since the majority of them are based on enthusiasm for riding, which is what I encourage in this blog.

(26) HELLRAISER says:

Can’t handle the facts, so you delete my comment. It was #20. Just proves my point.

January 21, 2010 at 6:01 pm
(27) Basem Wasef - Motorcycles Guide says:

Actually “Hellraiser”, I had no problem with your so-called “facts”– aside from the name-calling and offensive attitude that’s not permitted on this site. It was mainly the link to the pornographic website I had a problem with.

January 21, 2010 at 6:07 pm
(28) Joe says:

Pete, that’s a long time riding and explains your vast knowledge in bikes. Can’t say we have always agreed on some of these posts on here but you have ALWAYS been respectful and very knowledgeable when it comes to bikes and riding on this web page. Glad to here that you don’t judge all clubs as being negative. I believe there are waaaaay more as you put it “straight up, decent, law abiding riders & clubs” then the other way around. Shame the “few” are what some people judge us all by.

January 21, 2010 at 7:01 pm
(29) Preacher 1%er says:

Any real MC Member would never post Club business on a website like this. There are a lot of wannabe clubs and pig clubs who would, but they don’t count in my world. If I have to explain, you wouldn’t understand.

And the disrespect for pigs? It’s well deserved. You’d have to live in OUR world to even begin to understand it. That’ll never happen.

January 21, 2010 at 9:15 pm
(30) Pete says:

Being able to disagree with someone rational is great…it makes for good conversation and an opportunity to learn something.
Disagreeing with all these poor boys who are mercilessly persecuted by the jack booted, club wielding cops will just get your head bashed in…that’s all they know. They’re not called 1%er’s fer laffs. Most of them are borderline sociopathic. You HA types can look that up in a dictionary…that’s a big book that tells you what words mean.

January 22, 2010 at 11:53 pm
(31) JakJak says:

I actually am questioning Macaw, Crow, Parrot… Whatever! So offended by the pics or remarks of non-club members! Did you miss your nap? This is America, Freedom of Speech, Where just about any idiot can find a forum to express himself and then find someone else to comment. I think maybe you have a lifestyle people don’t understand, so be it! But if you have the cops, pigs, or any other for of pork product knocking on your door, chances are you did something to bring them there! So before you try to make yourself out to be so poor persecuted soul, fess up!! And don’t even think that someone who puts it all on the line every time they put that badge, that they are secretly thinking that they wanna be like you!! Any person who rides, has a right to do so. Wether in a club or on their own. Just like anyone who chooses to break the law will have the law to answer to.
So, I choose to ride alone, for fear of meeting Macaw or others like him! Thanx, JakJak

January 23, 2010 at 12:25 am
(32) JakJak says:

Also, I have a response to Preacher 1%er, truly using that 1 percent are you? Thank the good Lord above that we don’t live in you’re world! But a little respect please. If you don’t think the police help, then if someone tries breakin’ into your place or robbing your wife or mother, try callin’ a crackhead!

(35) Torch says:

This will be my last post because some of you here are just living in your own little fantasy world. One question for Pete and JakJak, how many times have you been followed or pulled over by the police, you put so much trust in, just because you have a patch on your back. NONE because you don’t live that lifestyle. How many times has someone started some crap with you and then called police because they were about to get their ass kicked, only to have the cops let the instigating party go and hold you at gun point because you wear a patch on your back. NONE because you don’t live that kind of lifestyle.

You two might want to look take a step back and check your ignorant toungue when you run off at the soup cooler about clubs and specificaly the 1% clubs. If you had any information other than what you watched on Gangland or Sons of Anarchy you would know that Patch Holders, 1% or other, are regular people that have wives, kids, jobs (yes real jobs and many with college educations) some are Doctors, Lawyers, Military members that are serving on active duty defending the very freedom you have that allows you the right to run off at the mouth. I wouldn’t be so quick to label any Patch Holder until you get to know them. I would dare you to strap on a set of balls and get out and find out about what it is that you are so quick to slam on. That would mean actually getting out your little RUB machine and riding in something other than 80 degree weather when the sun is shining, it would mean getting out and riding in those toy runs and it would mean, heaven forbid, that you actually walk into a real biker bar and not the bike night at RUB central.

Now, JakJak, if you trust in the police so much then why is there so many of them that are convicted pedophiles (look that word up in a dictionary there Jay, you know that big book that has all the word meanings in it), convicted wife beaters, thieves and drug dealers. You can call the cops when your mom is getting robbed or beaten, me I will just take care of it myself and call the cops to come and clean up the mess afterwards.

I will leave you all with this thought. They are called Motorcycle Clubs, not gangs. Motorcycle Clubs are not street gangs!

Have a nice day!

My my…touched a nerve there did I? Didn’t like the crack about the cartoon. You’ve got no sense of humor – I actually thought it was quite witty.

Your gracious invite is right up there with sitting down to have a beer.
There is nothing about your world I like, accept or tolerate, and nothing you can do or say will change that. You appear to feel the same about my world. When all is said and done, we should just agree to disagree.

Torch, Preacher, Macaw. Excuse there ignorance. I am not a 1% and not in an MC. In fact I am president of an RC. as sad as I am to see how MC’s put down RC’s a lot is understandable. 30 grand and 30 miles doesn’t make a biker. I run in the rain, sleet and fowl weather. I live the biker lifestyle and dont do it for prestige. I truly understand your world and brotherhood. By choice I have chosen to be leadership in an RC not an MC. I do however teach my members to respect there dominant club. The post I see above are disrespectful. But please do not judge all RC’s as being p****s. I ride because of my love for freedom and the need to. I rode 10 hours Monday, 12 hours Tuesday, 12 hours Wednesday and 19 hours Friday. These disrespectful and irragant comments are a joke from these other folks. All RC members are not disrespectful. MC’s live there lifestyle they way they want and RC’s do the same. Sometimes our worlds collide. often its good fellowship. MC members that break the law, that’s between them and the man. Do the crime and if you get caught you do the time. I got nothing on that. Your choice is like my choice not to. I have friends in MC’s and RC’s and treat everyone the same. Give respect and respect is given back. Ride hard my friends and Ride safe. Ken (Prez) in Mass
