Mickey Rourke Hopes to Play Sonny Barger in Hells Angels Movie

Mickey Rourke to Play Sonny Barger in Hells Angels Movie
Talk about a stroke of casting genius: former pretty boy and Iron Man 2 villain Mickey Rourke might play inimitable Hells Angels founder Sonny Barger in an upcoming feature film.

The Montreal Gazette suggests that before the actor's epic career comeback in 2008's The Wrestler, Rourke's personal downfall came not from drugs or alcohol, but rather due to "... a belligerent attitude toward authority figures." Perfect for the Barger role, yeah?

If he indeed takes on a Hells Angels film project (which is expected to be helmed by Tony Scott), his anti-establishment issues should work particularly well for the 57 year-old actor, since he told the Orlando Sentinel that he's "... been working on a motorcycle gangs script for 20 years."

We'll see if this one materializes; I certainly hope it does.

Awright…here we go again!! Basem…right on…took you long enough! I wonder if Parrot, Seagull, Sxxxhawk..what was his name again…the bird guy… is listening in?
This has potential to be a great movie…providing, and its A VERY BIG PROVIDING they do it honestly and tell the truth about one of the biggest organized crime gangs of murderers and drug dealers ever seen in North America.
If they turn it in to a bunch of crap about good old boys who want to ride their bikes and take stuffed animals to the kids, then don’t bother.
Oh yeah…I forgot about the part where they’re constantly persecuted by the police.
My bet is they touch on then truth, but it’ll end up a load of Hollyweird BS.

Pete,

That was a hoot, wasn’t it?

My favorite part of my last HA post: the claim that photos of “club” members aren’t supposed to be posted online… kinda reminded me of that recent South Park row, yeah?

USA Hells angels are known for the Large percent of their members in the news for crimes against women and children. Not only to many USa hells angels harm molest and murder women and children the hells angels not caught turn to supporting the members caught with Child porn or killing women and children.

I don’t see how a movie about scumbag and rat hells angels would interest the Average movie goer or how it would help the career of any actor.

Love them or hate them, the HELLS ANGELS have a facinating and legendary footnote in recent American history. If the film gives the proper background from WW2 up to, and continuing, when Barger took the reins, it’ll be a hit film. Roarke is the perfect badboy to play an aging Sonny, as he’s been hanging on the fringe with the HAs for years, and been a Scooter Tramp for most of his life (recall his Bike from “Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man”…he personally designed that thing on a napkin, with the Bartel’s people in Playa Del Rey, CA.) and knows the lifestyle. Bring it on…I’d definately pay to see it.

The first time I ever saw Sonny Barger was 1968. I was at a free Dead concert at Golden Gate Park in SF. The band was setting up and I began to hear this rumble from far off. It got closer and closer and bigger and bigger until I saw this huge pack of Hells Angels converge on the party. Sonny was at the front. He got off his bike and started shaking hands and hugging friends. It took about fifteen minutes for all the riders to filter in to the event. It was incredible I have never seen so many Red & White members at one event until they had their Fiftieth anniversary for Oakland and Richmond at the Sweet’s Ball Room in Oakland. So I think the movie would do real well. Sonny Barger is an icon in the Bay Area and internationally and Micky Rourke would be perfect for the part.
