Nearly two years after the furor over the raked-out Honda Fury simmered down, Star Motorcycles has released their own factory custom chopper: the 2011 Stryker.
Veering more towards the power cruiser side of the visual equation (a la the Star Raider), the Stryker out-rakes the Fury with a 40 degree fork, and wears a 210mm rear tire, which is 10mm thicker than the Fury's. Stryker is powered by a liquid-cooled 1,304cc v-twin, and its $10,999 starting price undercuts the Fury by a full two grand.
Honda's Fury is an unqualified sales success and became the best-selling metric factory custom, spinning off the Interstate, Sabre, and Stateline cruisers... so it's looking like the Stryker could steal more than a few buyers from Honda.
Think it will succeed? See pictures of Yamaha/Star's factory custom chopper in this 2011 Stryker Photo Gallery, and comment below!

The problem is that the Fury is clean and sleek while the Stryker is cluttered and chunky looking. Honestly, I thought it was just the Raider with a smaller engine. Not impressed.
I think Dana is right from what I see in the pics but I would like to see one in person before making a judgment about it. I will say it seems to be priced right.
I am a Honda guy with a VTX 1800 and a 750 chopper so i don’t judge by brand . I see a lot in this bike i like and the price seems fair. I think they will sale their share. If it would have came out a couple years ago it would have sold more but that is because of the economy.
I like it even though a little more cluttered than the Fury. Belt drive is nice.
If you look at the 2011 Star lineup it does seem that they are stepping back from the big cruisers. No Roadliners, only one Strat, same old Royal Star.
Oh My Goodness – Yamaha just can’t get it right! Another cluttered looking ride that actually looks slightly better than their earlier models, however, the exhaust is a visual nightmare not flowing with the lines at all, completely taking away from any beauty that might have been there!
Yuck!
I think Jake nailed it with his critique of the BUTT UGLY pipes!! Spoils the bike.
There seems to be distinct move in the last few years to the most gawd awful, hideous sewer pipes for exhaust systems…Sport bikes & Cruisers.
Ducati always had it (except the 999). Yamaha has it right on the R1, while the rest of the 600 & litre sport bikes can use the muffler as an emergency side stand. As much as I’m not a big HD fan, for the most part they put a clean, tasteful set of pipes on their bikes. If anything they’re small and unobtrusive…as opposed to almost everyone else who seem to think it’s cool to chrome plate drop tanks left over from WWII.
There’s my rant…I feel much better now!
For me, I like the bike maybe because of the color I really love blue color that’s why my bike is color blue. But I really like it the dirtbike graphics is not that bad in fact is more attracted to me.
I’m not a Yamaha guy, but i do like the look of the stryker, and a belt drive makes it much nicer. It does look more “beefier” and that’s why i like this bike. I don’t like the look of the fury, it’s just too “boney”.
Nice – but pipes and rear end where license plate is needs to be reworked.
I really really like this Stryker. Yes at first glance it’s a smaller version of the Raider but it does have it’s own unique lines if you pay attention. I like it better than the Fury because it’s beefier. I plan on riding my girlfriend often and I think she’ll be more comfortable on this bike than the skinny Fury. The stock 210 rear tire and belt drive are great features. What I like best is the all Blacked out Raven color and engine. I don’t like cleaning chrome so this bike is going to suite me just perfect. I’ve had 5 different bikes in my life thus far; a mixture of VFRs & CBRs and I can’t wait to get this bike under me as my first cruiser. Harleys are cool but too loud and vibrate way to much for me. I do agree that the tail pipes are nothing but an eye sore but I’m sure some after market company will produce something great.
I was hanging out for the V star 1300 classic until I saw the new Stryker. Thats the bike for me and my wife. With 80 BHP and 80 Brake Ft. lbs torque at the flywheel. and 646 pounds wet weight!! that will out run the Raider even with more torque and only slightly more HP than the Stryker. And 730 lbs from the Raider which is air cooled and has a internal cam and out dated pushrod motor. Actually It will eighter be the V Star 1300 classic or the Stryker. No ugly Honda fury or ugly suzuki m – 90. Both over priced and also the new left over star 1300’s are on sale for 2008–$6999. OTD and the 09 and 10’s more money. Hang out for a couple of years and let star get the bugs out of the stryker and have one for about $7,250 OTD!!
I see a couple of negative comments about the exhaust. Have you guys HEARD the note these pipes belt out? The sound is absolutely hypnotic! I currently own a 2006 Suzuki C50SE and I was in love with the Fury until I heard the Stryker. I’m saving my pennies and heading for a Yamaha dealer come spring…
Don’t know if it will be a success, or not, But I just purchased one – sight unseen – before they even hit the local Yamaha Shops! Thanks to Nassau Power Sports in Yulee, FL!!! What an Awesome looking Bike – and (I hope)
a Great Christmas Gift! Very impressive machine!
Yeah I must say I love the looks of this bike. And I also love the pipes! My buddy has an 08 Raider and I fell in love with it as soon as i saw it. However I got my first bike this year and figured a 1900 is a bit much for me and I said man I wish they made a smaller version of this bike because I would get it!! Well now my VL800 is getting too small for me and Yamaha unleashed the Stryker! So this winter I will be pumping out all the overtime I can get and Hopefully I will have one of these beauties come summer time!!
First of all everyone has their own taste, me personally I think the bike looks awsome. Fury has way to many empty spaces for my taste. As far as the exhaust, jake you got it right, the exhaust looks like a crippled snake. First thing that would go if I ever owned one. So in reality I think the bike looks great and is a great buy for the buck.
OMG people, as Dana said this Stryker IS the Raider with a smaller engine. Looks like Yamaha tried to improve on the already great Raider and made some very bad mistakes. It doesn’t seem to me that the Stryker is going to measure up. While the Raider weighs 90 lbs more, I don’t think the 1300cc engine will perform as good as the 1900cc. I also agree that Yamaha messed up on the exhaust on the Stryker. I guess the moral of this story is, when you have a good thing (the Raider) don’t mess with it..lol
I just bought the 2011 Yamaha Stryker! ( I debated between the 1100cc Honda Fury or the Stryker 1300cc) I bought the Stryker “Raven”, and I have to say it’s hot ride and so compfortable. I love it, but I just wish people on the road stop rubbernecking… for savety reasons…
I bought this bike last wednesday. There is Nothing cluttered about it. The cleanest, slickest bike I’ve ever seen. I’ve had nothing but huge great compliments on the bike.
If you get the chance to ride this Stryker, take it. You won’t regret it. Smoothest ride, best handling bike I have ridden in a long while. Just ordered mine.
You gotta hand it to the Star engineers. First the 1900’s and now this. Definately best in class as compared to the other manufacturers. It’s too bad that there’s always haters due to an inferiority complex.
A classy addition to the Star line up. It als o provides options in case you don’t want to break the bank on a 1900.
I own a 2006 roadliner midnight that I’ve modified for mostly 2up touring. I just had to get the 2011 Stryker for short trips and around town. It handles like a dream and gets it when you need it. Kinda quiet but nothing my new after market drag pipes can’t fix!
No more spoke rims, all black and bad axx looks! As you can tell I’m a Yamaha man all the way!!! I also own a 2005 vstar 1100 midnight custom that I’m now trying to sell.
I have a 09 Raider and I love it, but there are some things I would change. Like the Stryker, I would make it liquid cooled and make the exhaust pipes black. I think if Yamaha combined these two bikes (using mostly the Raider) they would have one of the best bikes on the market. Also I would have put a six speed tranny on the Raider.
It looks like a nice bike and I don’t know why people are being so hard on it. I haven’t seen a motorcycle company make a perfect bike yet.
I have been looking at motorcycles for a couple of years now and something about this bike made me fall in love with it. So about a month ago I bought one for a great price at Abernathy’s in TN. I like the black one more mainly because the exhaust isn’t chrome. I don’t like the look of the pipes but I dont hate them, but they do look better in black then chrome. I do plan to replace them eventually but mainly because they aren’t loud enough for my liking. The bike has great power and braking. The raked out front end makes it sexy looking. All my girl friends want me to take them for rides on it. The Fury is ugly in my OPINION. The pipes on the Fury are boring…they just go straight back. Rear fender looks like it sits too high off the tire, while the front fender looks like something off a V-Star Classic. Then you have a giant gap above the engine.
I bought a stryker (blue) 6 weeks ago for the looks and the
great ratings; this is one fine machine!!! The pipes were a big
reason I liked it and they sound fine to me. I cant imagine as much power as it has owning a raider! It out run a harley rocker c in a 0 to 60 test!! (a comparison of the 2 bikes) It,s
what I like in style and comfort too.I’m old school when it comes to chrome…
Just picked one up yesterday (blue one). I must say this bike looks absolutely awesome and what a ride… Smooth and powerful.
I own a 2009 Raider and my husband owns a 2010 Raider and we are looking for a spare bike and saw the 2011 Stryker. A bit heavy from kickstand to upright, especially after the Raider, but we love Yamaha and like the looks of the Stryker If it performs anything like the Raider we will be thrilled. I think the Stryker will be the next purchase.
I bought this bike (raven color) a couple of weeks ago; it’s my first bike — after much research, window shopping and test rides. I absolutely love this machine. I’ve added a few additional options (all by Star) like the quick-release windshield and passenger backrest — and Kuriyaken grips — but there is very little I plan to change about the overall appearance on this bike. Many people seem to have a problem with the way the pipes look, or that it seems “cluttered”, but I love the look of this bike, and I’ve gotten nothing but compliments from other bike owners on how badass it looks as well. It handles well, pretty smooth ride (unless you’re on some fairly rough roads), and it sounds good (has a decent rumble, but not the obnoxious roar of an HD). Overall I couldn’t be happier; if you get a chance test ride one, I’ll bet you’ll love it too.
60 deg v twin overhead cam liq cooled fuel inj with humid and alt controll with after market galore..i have a punched out evo skirtster and love this bike..i want one
I own a STRYKER and though I may be biased in my opinion. The bike has great lines… even Fury and HD owners have commented positively on them. The bike has good stock power. It will turn heads and reap compliments. I have a few issues with the stock pipe, radiator cover and license plate plastic drop down too. But with a few aftermarket parts, and a dremel… Presto… you have an instant, for lack of a better word..Sexy bike! Anybody who says they adore their bike from the factory and would not make any changes is either lying, or has never actually owned a bike. Fact is EVERY factory bike has flaws… it up to the individual to customize their own!….. just my opinion.
I picked up my black raven styker a week ago. Having owned both a raider and now styker. I am happy with my decision.
By the way,the stryker can not outrun a raider, lol
And also Morrow,the Honda Fury is a 1300 also,not an 1100:-)
