Real Fakes of Easy Rider's "Captain America" and "Billy Bike" Up for Grabs

By March 16, 2011

Easy Rider Bike

Setting aside the seemingly endless drama about alleged bikes from the film "Easy Rider" (not to mention those fire rumors), let's focus on two bona fide real fakes that will soon be up for grabs.

As replicas go, these two tricked out Hogs are about as noteworthy as they get: the 1962 "Billy Bike" and 1963 "Captain America" clones were built in 1993 for newspaper maven Otis Chandler, and both have been displayed in several museums, the latter appearing in the traveling exhibition of the Guggenheim museum's landmark "Art of the Motorcycle" exhibit.

The bikes will go on the block with no reserve at this year's Quail Lodge event on May 14th, with the "Billy Bike" estimated at $15,000 - $20,000, and "Captain America" reckoned at $20,000 to $30,000. Currently owned by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, the bikes will be available for viewings in New York between now and March 30, and at the Quail Lodge on May 13 and 14.

Need more info? Drop a comment, and I'll be happy to connect you with the appropriate folks at Bonhams.

Wow, in the last couple of weeks i was wondered which motorcycle should i buy but here’s the motorcycle that everybody wants to ride. I know that sometimes motorcycle is very dangerous but there are too good moments of Motorcycle riding. So i don’t think that motorcycle is dangerous because who ride safely never make an accidents, especially the Harley-Davidson’s Motorbikes are the best of the best in the world. let’s take a look, he creating Motorcycles with a good look of design and more to think about some options, one of them is that beautiful and thunderous Bikes. I asked my mother if it’s the best choice to Buy a Motorcycle and Riding with him but she can’t accept because she says to me every day that motorcycle is very dangerous. So i’m gonna buy car that replace the motorcycle and his freedoms.

There’s an exact replica of the Captain America bike at the Barber Motorsports Plaza outside of Birmingham Alabama. Saw it in October at vintage bike week. It is fine. The plaza has a fantastic museum with 1200 bikes on display, all pristine and in running condition. It was well worth the trip.
