GM and Segway Team Up For an Electric Two-Seater Called PUMA
Is This the Future of Urban Transportation?

From Basem Wasef, About.com

General Motors and Segway have teamed up for the PUMA concept, which stands for Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility. PUMA doesn't look like a traditional two-wheeler, mainly because it features:

  • Dynamic stabilization, which involves two-wheel balancing
  • All-electronic acceleration, steering and braking
  • Automated vehicle-to-vehicle communications and autonomous driving and parking

The PUMA promises a top speed of up to 35 mph with a range of up to 35 miles, making it ideal for short range urban transportation. Though specifics are sketchy, GM expects the PUMA to cost 1/4 to 1/3 the price of a typical automobile. There's no word on when this concept might become a reality.
