Looking for a way to discreetly protect your lower body while riding? Forcefield's Pro Pants are designed to be worn casually under jeans or slacks, and feature a washable open-weave textile called Meryl that holds armored plates in place.
The armor is four layers thick, and features a matrix that disperses impact energy. The lower priced non-Pro version (called "Sport") features two layers. These unique foam-like pieces are flexible and cover the thighs, hips, and coccyx. The knee and shin sections are stiffer, and all armor fits snugly within pockets.
These armored leggings appear to be well made, and I'm happy to say that I haven't actually crash tested them so I can't speak to their performance. However, after a number of days of use I've noticed that fit is critical. If they sag under your jeans, the armor won't cover the correct body parts; not good in an accident. Also, they can be uncomfortable to sit in when you're not riding, and their bulk adds what looks like more than a few pounds of weight to the thigh area.
However, if you're looking for a low key way to wear armor and still get to wear your jeans, Forcefield's $179 Pro Pants are a pricey but inventive way to go.
