I’m usually a Medium, but this half-helmet is sized a bit small and felt snug, so you’ll want to make sure you get your helmet fitted correctly before considering a purchase. Externally, Harley’s Carbon Kevlar helmet is nicely finished, with a chevron pattern that meets down a center seam. The strap loops around a double-D ring, and the top of the straps offer some ear protection—though, if you’re concerned about hearing loss, you’ll want to hang on to those earplugs. There’s a mild venting effect from the two inlets, but the main thing you’ll notice at speed is the sensation of wind across your face, not internal airflow.
Padding is on the firm side, but there’s plenty of energy absorbing material between the removable liner and the Carbon Kevlar skin—no doubt in part because this is a premium (and, of course DOT-approved) helmet.
If you’re a half-helmet enthusiast, don’t let my prejudice stop you from putting this DOT-approved lid on your shopping list. Though it’s a bit on the expensive side, this helmet makes an attractive complement to the Harley you might have in your garage.
