Guide Review - Harley-Davidson Carbon Kevlar Half Helmet Review
Its carbon fiber weave shines enticingly and it weighs only 1.75 pounds, but I just couldnt get myself to ride a motorcycle wearing Harley-Davidsons Carbon Kevlar half helmetI feel safer with full face helmets that offer complete coverage, so I tested Harleys half lid while offroading this open-air four-wheeler.Im usually a Medium, but this half-helmet is sized a bit small and felt snug, so youll want to make sure you get your helmet fitted correctly before considering a purchase. Externally, Harleys Carbon Kevlar helmet is nicely finished, with a chevron pattern that meets down a center seam. The strap loops around a double-D ring, and the top of the straps offer some ear protectionthough, if youre concerned about hearing loss, youll want to hang on to those earplugs. Theres a mild venting effect from the two inlets, but the main thing youll notice at speed is the sensation of wind across your face, not internal airflow.
Padding is on the firm side, but theres plenty of energy absorbing material between the removable liner and the Carbon Kevlar skinno doubt in part because this is a premium (and, of course DOT-approved) helmet.
If youre a half-helmet enthusiast, dont let my prejudice stop you from putting this DOT-approved lid on your shopping list. Though its a bit on the expensive side, this helmet makes an attractive complement to the Harley you might have in your garage.
