Helmet Secure Motorcycle Helmet Lock

An effective way to secure your helmet if you don't mind a small chrome box attached to your bike.

How do you review a motorcycle helmet lock? I put Helmet Secure to the test by attaching a pricey AGV helmet to a $19,000 Ducati Streetfighter S, and leaving the two in plain view overnight near a spot where my car had once been broken into... not exactly the most relaxing way to go to bed at night.

This admittedly unscientific methodology would at least introduce the opportunity for somebody to attempt snipping the wire and making away with the lid. Helmet Secure didn't fit around the bike's handlebars, so I attached it to the frame, and although I would never ride a motorcycle with a chrome protrusion on the side for obvious safety reasons, this made the helmet even more enticing for would-be thieves.

Before I divulge what happened to the helmet, let me describe the relatively easy assembly process. The Helmet Secure fits together using a curved "bar end" section that mates it to a "middle" section that connects to a "lock" section. Rubber inserts allow the lock to fit to different diameters. The "lock" portion mates to the middle section using two bolts that screw in with a supplied Allen key, and a coiled wire cable secures using two supplied keys. The whole assembly fits in the palm of your hand, and has a nice, hefty feel with a shiny chrome finish. It took just a few minutes to bolt the unit to the bike, and it fit snugly enough to stay put without any wiggling-- though the company does recommend using Loctite to secure the bolts.

But can you rely on Helmet Secure? After a night of tossing and turning, I walked downstairs to the bike and found the helmet still attached and unmolested. Of course, that's no guarantee of ultimate security, but for casual theft deterrence this $59.99 product is at the very least an effective way to secure a helmet to a bike.
