Belt drive

By Basem Wasef, About.com

Definition: A final drive setup in which the rear wheel is turned by a belt, usually made of reinforced rubber. Other final drive systems include shaft drive (in which a metal shaft rotates in order to drive the rear wheel) and traditional chains (which require more maintenance than belt or shaft drives.)
Pronunciation: belt drahyv
Examples:
I got tired of oiling my chain, so I converted my bike to a belt drive system instead.
