The Yamaha TMAX power scooter has been available in Europe for years, but debuts in the U.S. this year as a 2009 model, priced at $7,999 (in Deep Blue) and $8,099 (in Cadmium Yellow.)
This plus-sized scooter verges on sportbike territory in terms of performance, and features:
- A liquid-cooled, 499cc parallel twin engine
- Continuously variable automatic transmission
- Dual footrests
- 43mm telescopic forks up front with dual-caliper, 4-piston, four-pad monoblock brakes
- A parking brake operated via a lever on the left grip
- A large, lit storage area underneath the saddle, which includes an adjustable backrest. The saddle stays up using hydraulic struts
- Dual glove boxes
- A 31.5 inch seat height, 4.0 gallon fuel capacity, and estimated fuel economy of 47 mpg
