The Ultimate Test: Will Fat Bob Earn an Invitation to the Harley Family Reunion?

Harley-Davidson puts a lot on the line when they introduce an all-new bike, and the Fat Bob is certainly no exception: not only does it seek to perpetuate everything Harley’s 105 year-old brand has come to represent, it attempts to do so while incorporating the modern element of custom styling.

The Fat Bob succeeds on both the traditional and the forward-thinking fronts: it looks and feels exactly right, while adding the bonus of unorthodox styling—at least by Milwaukee standards. It’s not as stylistically challenging or controversial as the Rocker, but the Fat Bob manages to push the envelope without going too far.

The Fat Bob is available in seven solid colors, including three street smart, matte finishes Harley refers to as “denim.” The Fat Bob starts at $14,795 in black and $15,140 with color paint, plus freight and California Emissions charges if they apply. The bike includes a 24 month unlimited mileage warranty, and the service interval is the first 1,000 miles, and every 5,000 miles thereafter.

Dual headlights characterize the Fat Bob.

I've been riding a combination of Japanese and German motorcycles for more that 25 years and have always considered Harley Davidson bikes as parallels with American cars, i.e. they look good, are great for freeways, but just don't do corners and are poorly built. All this changed a few months ago when I test rode a Fat Bob.... I was so impressed I immediately ordered one. After having the bike for several weeks now my first impressions have been reinforced. The Fat Bob really does handle superbly. Its well balanced and easy to ride. The build quality isn't upto the best of standards, but it makes up for that by just oozing character and bad boy attitude. Unlike other bikes I've owned, the Fat Bob feels like a hand built machine with a heart and soul. From the moment you fire it up and hear that distinctive burble, to the responsiveness of the throttle and stomping power of its engine, the Fat Bob leaves you in no doubt that you are riding the culmination of years of motorcycling passion and engineering experience. This machine will make you feel alive. You will feel proud about it and want to keep it for a long time, to personalise and stamp your character on it, and feel part of a heritage no other manufacturer can match.
