Bob M's 2007 H-D Sportster XL1200R

My Sportster story.

What do you ride? List year, make, and model!

2007 H-D Sportster XL1200R

What do you love about your bike?

Fast, agile and torque all day. Great all around bike.

Any dislikes?

Lots of work (money) to get it where it is now. Just a bit small two up.

Where I bought it

At Ocean State H-D in Warwick, RI. A good experience all around, bought new at below list, and always treated with respect. If I get another H-D, I'll go here first if I buy new.

Why I bought it

After waiting for years since I rode in the 60s and 70s, I wanted a bike I could do most anything on. A day tripper, a bar hopper, a light touring bike, and when solo, I can blast the twisties!

I like the fact I can work on it, very easy and with a factory manual, you can do almost anything you want to tackle. I did all the upgrades my self, putting on aftermarket air cleaner and pipes, installing fork springs and shocks, and installing adjustable fuel mixer and tuning it. Plus, I do all the services at the recommended intervals.

Tips and Tricks

  • buy used! you can get a much better deal if you know what you're doing!
  • if you get a 883, you'll want to go to 1200 or 1250 after a while.
  • Do at least a stage one upgrade, air cleaner, pipes, and a fuel pack.
  • Progressive fork springs and shocks are a must for better handling, especially 2 up.
  • get an aftermarket seat, the factory one stinks!
  • a factory manual is a must! and even a parts book.
  • get on a Sportster forum, you'll learn more in a few days on one than you'll ever learn any other way!
