2003 Honda VTX1300S

Any dislikes?

Cold-natured carburetor

Where I bought it

Bought it at a consignment shop at a great price.

Why I bought it

I had a Honda 750DC Shadow and I was ready for a bike with better handlebar position and power. I had seen the same bike six months earlier by the same owner in a credit union bulletin so I knew I could get it at a good price - and I did! I sat on a similar bike the week before at a Honda dealer and I decided my next bike was going to be a VTX1300. It was naked; I added a windshield, sissy bar and rack, and bags.

Tips and Tricks

  • It has floorboards, so don't be afraid to occasionally drag them. I doesn't take much lean for it to happen.
  • You can make changing the oil yourself easier by nailing two 2x6 inch boards together with one end cut at 45 degrees (make 3) to make two ramps and a sidestand ramp. Run your bike up on two of these and use the third for the sidestand in order to raise your bike to make it easier to put your oil drain pan under the bike.
  • Use Easy Brackets to mount the saddlebags - you won't regret it.
