Over Million Miles

Most all the trips my husband made and those two up have been R1100GS & R1200 Adventurer GS. The road to Inuvik is the Dempster not the Dempstet. We've used Jesse Bags and camped and have after market windshields and the Day Long Saddle by Russell. My husband lowered the foot pegs since I have long legs which helps if you do have 400-500 mile days. Have more great rides! Ruthie

Over Million Miles

I have to respond since my husband says there's no need. I rode with him in 1991 16,400 miles on a Gold Wing from San Diego all around the US counter clockwise. We've ridden two up three times to Alaska including the Haul Road to Prudoe Bay and also The Dempstet to Inuvik in the Northwest Territories. We've ridden extensively from San Diego through out all Canada's Provinces including Newfoundland. Also, since I speak fluent Spanish, we've made numerous trips to Mexico. Ed has traveled throughout Europe and also down to Guatemala.

Nobody knows the right answer.

Are you expecting me to comment on that moron question? Who ever did passed the test. Me, I ride a Witch Switch bike that I got at the Wizard of Oz's garage sale. Mile wise on the ground, I'd say about 11 trips around the world. Add the broom air miles and I get lost. I mean, who cares?

Well used Wing

I bought a 93 GL1500 in 2003 with 35000 miles on it. I rode it around and got comfortable on it and then was asked by the man who taught me to ride a couple years earlier if I wanted to teach. Hell yea. I started teaching the basic class then they asked if I would try out a some exercises for a new class they were creating. Streetmaster was born and we never backed off. I logged 4000 miles on tracks and endless hours on the pad demonstrating what a beast like that can do. I tore of 6 sets of highway pegs before I just quit buying them. Ground down 3 sets of footpegs. Wore through the exhaust pipes, engine guards and valve covers. I finally sold it in 2007 with 185,000 miles when I upgraded to a GL1800. I have been much easier on this one. I haven't made as many cross country trips or the 24 hour Texas to California trips I did on the 1500 but my students still notice the wear marks from pushing it way beyond what most people would do on a 950 pound toy.

Yours is a simple lpobrem. You add up the prose and cons of new and used and arrive at a total. In respect to the Yamaha V-star 250 cc.Work through the local classifieds/bike sales magazines and eBay and get an idea of resale value say over 1, 2 and 3 years. You see, if this bike after say 2 years is only worth $1,900 that is a loss of $1,850. (example only)I assure you after a few years you will be wanting to try more power so selling and buying again is not unexpected. Now in the used bike arena its harder to predict the future.Lets imagine you buy a used V-star at $1,850, and in a few years its worth. $850.your only $1,000 behind. Yet I do agree that any used bike will bring with it out standing work. At a minimum a full service will be required plus a few small fix ups. I guess then providing you can afford it, you may be better with the new bike as that brings with it a warranty so hassle free riding. BTW.Dont bog your self down on a single bike, Do lots of research as other great rides are on offer.

Odometer

My 2001 Honda VFR has over 104,000 miles on it. It has never needed a valve adjustment and does not use any oil.

That my reading on a GL1800 03 wing. Riding on a PolarBear Grandtour event. Great bike with very few problems over the years.

mileage

I put 90,000 on an old Honda magna "94". It ran great and was very reliable. A buddy of mine has a 95 BMW 1150. He takes long distance trips like we go the store. It is still running with 289,000 miles on the clock. He still tours with it. Go figure. Be safe.

Mileage

I have a 2005 Goldwing that I purchased in August 2005. It currently has 151,000 miles on the odometer and is still going strong. I plan to ride the PCH from Southern California into Canada this August. Starting point will be Stafford, VA. No trailering for me!

Odometer Tale

I have made 155.000 km + so far on my 1995 H-D Standard. which must be 90.000 miles or something like that! Not much I find myself, but after retirement I took care for a ladyfriend and this prevented me to take a vabation for 9 years!
